Why do people need to be identified as men or
women? Why can’t people just be people and their
gender being like the color of their hair? When
people change their hair from black to blond,
should it bear is an identity crisis for them?
A bitter fact of society is gender
discrimination. Sex is a physical difference,
but gender is a socio-psychological difference
which is an outcome of identity crisis of women
in Indian society. Though the right to free and
compulsory education without discrimination and
quality has been reaffirmed in all major
National and International human rights
conventions, the age-old traditional practices
and social conditioning has cornered the
position of women, compelling them to be
considered as secondary citizens.
Women Education is a catch-word along with a
couple of issues and debates surrounding in
social fabric. It encompasses areas like gender
equality access to education, alleviation of
poverty and secular education. Considering the
importance of women education, St Paul’s College
Of Education, a pioneer in Teacher training
college has organized lectures, discourses, on
various issues of women from time to time to
orient future teachers.

Equal Opportunity Cell 2018-19
India is a country of diversity. It is a hub of
different religions, castes and cultures.
However, the Indian society is characterized by
a highly entrenched system of social
stratification. It is the social inequalities
that created the barriers of denial of access to
materials, cultural and educational resources to
the disadvantaged groups of society. These
disadvantaged groups are SCs, STs, women, OBC
(non-creamy layer), minorities and physically
challenged persons, HK Sts. An Equal opportunity
Cell is established to promote equal
opportunities for marginalized social groups,
minorities, and physically challenged students
at the college. The Equal Opportunity Cell
functions in the college to ensure equity and
equal opportunity to the community at large and
bring about social inclusion,
The Objectives of the Equal Opportunity
Cell:
• To promote equal opportunity through
sensitization and awareness programs on policies
and schemes for marginalized groups, human
rights, gender issues, etc.
• To provide supplementary academic support in
the form of remedial coaching, coaching for
NET/SET and such other state and national level
eligibility tests/competitive exams.
• To provide avenues of skill development and to
enhance employability.
• To examine cases of violation of equal
opportunity, if any, and expedite redressal of
• To provide orientation in public examinations
and other tests which will help them receive
financial support from State/Central Government.
• To ensure implementation of reservation policy
with regard to admission to academic programs
